What we do
The ESS executive council encourages all students to become members of the Education Students' Society. An ESS membership has many advantages:
- discounts on PD events
- discounts on social events
- discounts on Education apparel
- voting rights at the Annual General Meeting
Looking for a way to build up your portfolio? Interested in expanding your knowledge on certain subjects related to teaching? Want to grow professionally? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then professional development is for you!
The ESS offers a wide variety of professional development events for students to attend. Through these events you will develop an array of skills, build your resume and portfolio, gain resources for teaching, and make contacts for a future in the profession of education.
PD’s are offered in the early evenings Mon-Thurs, and Friday mornings and/or afternoons. They can range anywhere from a couple of hours to full day workshops. For each PD you attend, you will receive a certificate of participation to include in your professional portfolio.
To find out what PDs are offered and when, please visit the ESS Blog; the 2017-2018 Calendar; the PD Bulletin Board located near the student lounge; or, our ESS Facebook Page! In addition, please visit www.usask.ca/events and click "College of Education". Once you do this, you will notice that a bunch of events in purple show up on the page - these all denote specific College of Education events. All PDs are noted by a star so be sure to check them out!
PD events range in price, but the vast majority of them cost only $4 to attend. The events that cost more are priced higher to cover the cost of amazing resources you will receive. If you have any specific questions regarding PDs, please ask a friendly member of the ESS, call (306) 966 - 7747 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
To register for a PD event:
- Find the name and date of the PD from www.usask.ca/events 'College of Education'; the 2017-2018 Calendar; the ESS Facebook Page the Bulletin Board; or, the ESS Blog
- Bring the information and payment to the ESS office (room 1009).
- Remember to sign up before the registration deadline!

- If notice of cancellation is given to a PD officer 48 hours before event is to take place.
Time flies by during the short two years you will spend in the College of Education! To make the most of your time here, there are plenty of opportunities to have fun and get to know fellow teacher candidates through social events planned and sponsored by the ESS.
The ESS hosts a variety of both alcoholic and non alcoholic events throughout the year. Social events are a great way to show your college spirit and are wonderful for busting stress!
Come out and have a great time!
To view the list of social events planned for the year, please visit the 2017-2018 Calendar. Also, keep your eyes peeled for posters advertising social events, and listen to class announcements to make sure you don't miss a good time at a social event.
