With a dream to make an impact on the lives of children, University of Saskatchewan College of Education students Christina Luross and Jordanne Estergaard were given the opportunity, thanks to the A. Marion Clarke Education Trust. Clarke (BEd’62) devoted her entire career to teaching young children and she established this trust through a gift in her will to support the advancement of early childhood education.

The two students in the early childhood education cohort were given the opportunity to speak of how their lives were impacted by the trust at the Greystone Circle Garden Party in May at the President’s Residence. This annual event recognizes and celebrates members who have chosen to include the university in their estate plans.

The A. Marion Clarke Education Trust re-established the early childhood undergraduate education program at the University of Saskatchewan. The program specializes in equipping future educators to best facilitate learning for students in Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 3. The concept of early childhood education cohorts was something Clarke believed was a foundational concept for the program. The cohorts allow the students to specialize and focus on relevant topics for specific grade levels including teaching subjects through play and inquiry-based pedagogy, as well as creating dynamic social learning environments for young children.

“If Marion Clarke was here today, my hope would be that she could see the incredible impact her gift has had on creating inspired and passionate early childhood educators in our cohort this year and the years previous,” said Luross in her speech at the event.

“This trust has allowed our cohort to exist and for us to flourish as future educators around like-minded people, who want to make a positive impact on the lives of young children. Not only is this gift benefitting the students in our cohort by creating better educators for young children, but also the communities that these future educators will be a part of. Without Marion Clarke this experience wouldn’t have been possible.”

Jordanne ended their speech with this thought, “Our hope is that people recognize the significance of the generosity from donors like you and Marion Clarke whose vision and passion has empowered students to further study early childhood education."

You too can help ambitious students achieve their goals. Consider making a gift in your will, and contact us today to discuss how your support can improve the lives of U of S College of Education students for years to come.
