This lecture
considers the formation of culturalism in Indigenous education
and its consequences in terms of curriculum, policy and the material
and symbolic realms of postcolonial states. Dr. McConaghy draws
upon her experience of practices within Australia and considers
implications for rethinking education in Canadian institutions.
Dr. Cathryn
McConaghy is Senior Lecturer in Educational Contexts at the University
of New England in New South Wales, Australia, and author of Rethinking
Indigenous Education: Culturalism, Colonialism and the Politics
of Knowing (2000 Post Pressed). Her book has made a significant
contribution in Australia and North America and to postcolonial
feminist studies in education.
