Debra graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Psychology and a Masters of Education degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan. She then worked at SIAST (now Saskatchewan Polytechnic) in the Basic Education program and in private practice doing counselling, assessments, and supervising practicum students and provisional psychologists. Debra returned to the University of Saskatchewan to complete a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Special Education. She is a Registered Doctoral Psychologist.
