Kirkpatrick Travel Award 2013 - 2014 Recipient

Carol Demchuck-Kosalofski has been selected as the recipient of the Kirkpatrick Travel Award for 2013-2014.

Carol Demchuk-KosalofskiCarol Demchuk-Kosolofski is an educator from Prairie Spirit School Division currently seconded to the College of Education. Working as a field experience consultant, with a focus on rural partnerships, Carol has been fortunate to work with many talented cooperating teachers and interns. From this work emerged an interest and recognition of a need to explore ways of further building supports for teachers as they first enter the profession. Currently Carol is working with two researchers from the College of Education on a partnership pilot project with Prairie Spirit School Division, Partners in Mentorship. This project is exploring a model of providing release time for mentor teachers to work one-to-one with beginning teachers in their classrooms and the impact it has on mentors, beginning teachers and student learning. As a recipient of the Kirkpatrick Travel Award, Carol will travel to Santa Cruz, California to visit the New Teacher Centre to gain more knowledge about the various approaches and models of mentorship in education.

The Kirkpatrick Travel Award is administered jointly by the University of Saskatchewan College of Education, the University of Saskatchewan Alumni Association, and the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation. The annual award celebrates the contribution the late Dean Emeritus Balfour Kirkpatrick made to education in Saskatchewan.
