Become an Education Peer Mentor

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Peer Mentor in the College of Education! By leading a learning community, you will expand your leadership experiences by:

  • Connecting with first and second year Education students
  • Expanding your skills as a facilitator/teacher
  • Gaining valuable experiences for your resume
  • Networking with teachers, faculty, alumni and student leaders
  • Receiving recognition of your services, including an item on you Co-Curricular Record and an honorarium

*A limited number of peer mentor positions are available.

Personal Information:

Applicants are encouraged to:

  • Attend an Information Session on April 3rd, 12:30pm – 1:20pm

Successful Applicants (Education Peer Mentors) are expected to:

  • Commit to an initial Training Day on Saturday August 19th 9:00am – 3:00pm

And, for either Term 1 or Term 2 of 2017-18 …

  • Attend weekly training sessions (1 hour/week)
  • Plan Learning Community activities with co-peer mentor (1 hour/week)
  • Co-facilitate Learning Community sessions with Direct Entry students (1 hour/week)
  • Communicate effectively on a regular basis with Learning Community students and staff

Learning Communities are offered in both fall and winter terms. 
The Learning Community hours run for 13 weeks in Term 1 and 13 weeks in Term 2.

 In addition to a $200 honorarium and a line on your Co-Curricular Record, Peer Mentors will receive a College of Education hooded sweatshirt.
