DESCRIPTION:“Recruiting Merton: Conjectures on Ecological Ethics.”\n\nA
bstract: When Thomas Merton wrote “Letters to a White Liberal” during
the summer of 1963\, he brought a sharp\, critical analysis to the civil r
ights issues confronting American society. He examined his own complicity
in hierarchical structures that contributed to those issues\, and challen
ged White Liberals who claimed that they favoured civil rights? Were they
really willing to admit their complicity and make the deep changes requir
ed for civil rights to take root? Merton’s approach and principles can b
e recruited to challenge today’s supporters of more green\, Earth-friend
ly practices. Just how far are we willing to go?\n\n\nDennis Patrick O’
Hara\n\nDr. O’Hara is an associate professor of ethics in the graduate F

DESCRIPTION:Both Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI have identified th

Saskatchewan. Desiree Steele is St Thomas More's Student Union President.
This is her third year being an active member on council. She will share h
er visions for the future of St Thomas More in student life and as a part
of the University of Saskatchewan. Gertrude Rompre is a STM Alumni who is
Director of Mission and Ministry and recently served as a Special Advisor
to the President on Mission Education. She will be sharing her experience
and aspirations for the Catholic Identity Statement. Lastly\, Basilian Fat
