Space rent and leases
The objectives of the space rent and lease project are:
- to review the university's operating costs associated with the rental of space from external agencies and determine how savings could be incurred by reducing the footprint of our leased space
- to review the university's rental of institutional space to external agencies to ensure consistency in the application of space occupancy costs
Reducing our footprint
The completion of the Health Sciences E Wing in the fall of 2013 will provide the university with an opportunity to re-locate units currently housed in non-university facilities for which the university is responsible for rental costs. The completion of the E Wing will result in space becoming available for re-allocation. Preliminary planning exercises are underway to assess the physical fit of such moves. Discussion will need to be undertaken with the units being considered and consultation will be required with PCIP. Cost estimates will also need to be prepared in addition to the determination of a capital funding source. Consultations and further planning will be undertaken over the summer months with a final proposal expected to be completed in fall 2013.
