Upgrade Required for Desktops
UniFi Plus users can now upgrade their desktop to Java Runtime
(JRE) version 1.6.0_37. This upgrade is recommended to ensure that you
have the latest security and performance enhancements installed. Testing
has confirmed that version 1.6.0_37 works as expected with all of these
systems.
However, if you use an
Apple desktop, you will need to contact either your local IT department or
the ICT Help Desk (further information below).
Installation instructions will differ depending on how your
desktops are supported.
- For ICT-managed desktops, the upgrade will be installed when you
restart your computer on or after November 22.
- For locally supported desktops, please contact your IT support to
ensure your desktop is upgraded.
- If you have administrator privileges on your computer, to install
this software go to: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual_v6.jsp
Please note:
- there are known problems with version
1.7.x of Java Runtime. Avoid using those versions until further notice.
- there are known issues with Apple compatibility with JRE
1.6.0_37. For Apple users, if you installed the
2012-006 Java Update from Apple Software Updates, you will need to revert back
to a version of Java that is compatible with all university systems; please
follow the directions outlined on this support page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559. If you need assistance with reverting back to an earlier
version, please contact the ICT Help Desk.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact your local IT
support or the ICT Help Desk at help.desk@usask.ca
or 966-4817.
