Users' Tips

Here are some tips and tricks that might help you learn more about the capabilities and functionalities of the Atlas of Saskatchewan CD-ROM Edition.

Printing images from the Atlas of Saskatchewan CD-ROM Edition.  There is a limited printing capability with the CD-ROM Edition of the Atlas of Saskatchewan.  The following outlines the procedures for printing screen captures of the atlas pages.

  1. Start up a Paint program (Microsoft Paint, Corel PhotoPaint, Adobe Photoshop etc...)

  2. Start up the Atlas program

  3. Go to the desired page in the Atlas and press the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard.  This will copy the image of the screen to the clipboard.

  4. Hold down the "Alt" key and keep it pressed down.  Pres the "Tab" key to bring up a selection menu which you cycle through by pressing the "Tab" key (remember, you are still holding down the "Alt" key).  When you have tabbed through to the Paint program you started earlier, release the "Alt" key and you will switch to that program.

  5. Use the "Paste" function to copy the contents of the clipboard (i.e. the image of the Atlas page) into the Paint program.  You can then manipulate the image of the Atlas screen (perhaps cropping it to include only the part of the page you are interested in) and then print it out.

Setting the screen resolution for viewing the Atlas of Saskatchewan.  The Atlas of Saskatchewan CD-ROM edition was developed for a screen resolution of 1024 X 768 pixels per inch.  The following is the procedure for generating these settings on your monitor.

PC – Windows 95/98/NT

  1. From the Start menu, choose Settings, then Control Panel and double click on the Display Icon – OR – Right click anywhere on your computer screen and from the roll down menu choose Properties.

  2. From the Display Properties window, click the Settings tab.  Choose the desired setting (1024 X 768) by dragging the ‘Desktop Area’ bar to the appropriate position.

  3. Click test, in order to see if your machine will accept the settings.  When the test is completed, then click OK.  The screen resolution will change immediately.

Mac – OS 8.1 or Later

  1. From the Apple Icon, Click on Control Panel.
  2. In the Control Panel window choose Monitors.
  3. This will open a window providing you with a list of screen resolution settings.
  4. Click on 1024 X 768 (or greater) from the list.  The settings will automatically change.
