The Sessions

Each day will consist of morning sessions where we will present and discuss information on that days topic(s). In the afternoons, participants will have the chance to work on the aspects of their courses that were discussed during the morning session, with the assistance of members of the GMCTE staff. Participants will also share what they are working on with each other to gain valuable feedback.

Requirements

  • A final reflective piece will need to be completed at the end of the week.
  • An additional meeting between the CDI instructors and the participants will be arranged at a later date to check-in on how these courses are proceeding and answer participants questions that have come up since the CDI.
  • A portfolio of the course (syllabus, reflections on how and why decisions were made related to assessments, teaching strategies and the overall process) will need to be completed by the following May. Details about this will be discussed during the CDI.

Project Grants

Course design / re-design projects completed by faculty participants in our Spring Break Course Design Institute can be eligible for a $1000 grant to support the further development and implementation of the newly designed or re-designed course.  These implementation grants will be available for courses that introduce a new significant focus in one or more of University's  four curricular priority areas, which include experiential learning, Aboriginal education, internationalization, and innovative uses of learning technology.

Faculty interested in these project grants must register in the course design institute, present a brief abstract of their course design idea for feedback and pre-approval, and successfully complete the week-long course design institute.  If conditions are met, a transfer of $1000 to the academic unit of the participating faculty member will occur immediately following the institute.
