Events Overview

The GMCTE runs a number of events and workshops throughout the year for faculty, sessionals, graduate students, and staff at the University of Saskatchewan, ranging from short one or two hour workshops, to all-day symposia or conferences, to week-long institutes.

Calendar of Events:  Our Calendar of Events lists all workshops and events organized by the GMCTE.  The Calendar of Events page lists the most immediate upcoming events, and also provides a calendar listing all scheduled events by date.  The same Calendar of Events can be found within PAWS under the PD and Training Tab.

Regular Events

Workshops:  The GMCTE offers a number of workshops throughout the year in the Fall, Winter and Spring, led by faculty from across campus or by members of the GMCTE team.  We also regularly host visiting lectures from experts across Canada and around the world.  They cover a variety of topics related to teaching strategies, assessment and evalation, and other key and timely aspects of teaching and learning in higher education.

Teaching Effectiveness Afternoons (TEA):  The GMCTE hosts a number of TEAs (Teaching Effectiveness Afternoons) throughout the year, where we invite key leaders from across campus to the GMCTE to discuss teaching and learning in an informal, conversational manner.  All are welcome to attend.

Thematic Short Courses:  For those people interested in delving a bit deeper into a topic, the GMCTE offers a number of short courses - a series of 3 to 6 workshops related to a particular topic that allows people to engage more deeply in a topic over a number of days or weeks.

wāskamisiwin Series: The  wāskamisiwin series aims to increase awareness of the historical roots of contemporary social relations, to foster more positive and respectful relationships among Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples, and to consider the implications that this history has for current pedagogy being utilized within academic institutions. Each session will close with a facilitated discussion where participants are invited to reflect, share and ask questions.

Annual Events

Course Design Institute:  The GMCTE offers a one-week, intensive course design institute that helps walk any instructor who is designing or redesigning a course through an innovative course design process.

Fall Orientation to Teaching and Learning:  Each year immediately before the Fall term begins, the GMCTE hosts an Orientation to Teaching and Learning at the University of Saskatchewan for new faculty (one day), all instructors at the U of S including faculty, sessionals, and graduate students (one day), and graduate students (one day).

Celebration of Teaching  Held annually to celebrate exceptional teaching at the U of S.

Annual SoTL Symposium:  The Centre for Discovery in Learning, in conjunction with the GMCTE, hosts an annual symposium on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL) that celebrates the research on higher education teaching and learning conducted at the University of Saskatchewan, as well as to provide people new to SoTL an opportunity to learn more about it.

Special Events

Special events will appear under our events menu, as an announcement on the front page, and on our events calendar. We have recorded several of our special events, which you can view here.

"Advising as Teaching" Series: The purpose of this series is to advance and celebrate the notion that advising students on their academic plans and decision processes is a form of teaching.  To register, go to the GMCTE Events Calendar.
