(Plains Cree for "becoming more aware")
About the Seminars
The wāskamisiwin seminars, facilitated by a variety of speakers, provide professional development open to faculty and staff across all departments and units at the University of Saskatchewan.
The goals of the wāskamisiwin seminars are to:
- generate increased awareness of the historical roots of contemporary social relations;
- bring to light current issues;
- foster more positive and respectful relationships among Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples; and
- consider the implications that this history has for pedagogies being utilized within academic institutions.
The seminars guide respectful communication and interaction with Indigenous peoples and communities.
