Colonial Impact on the Roles of Indigenous Women
12:30 PM to 4:00 PM
Grad Student Association Commons, Emmanuel and St. Chad
Historically, Indigenous women had important and integral roles
within their Nations. With European contact, those roles suffered a
severe impact and were dramatically changed from their original form.
Most notable impacts came from the trading posts, the Indian Act, and
Indian Residential schools, as well as Treaties and other policies.
The colonial impact on the role of Indigenous women will be discussed
and explored in a panel of outstanding and knowledgeable women from
various backgrounds, brought together to high light the current
situation. Please join us to share in the dialogue.
