Gold, Silver, Bronze, a Fellowship and More

The U of S is a member of the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE) whose annual national conference was held in St. John's, Newfoundland in June. The U of S Alumni & Development office won a number of awards.

Meloche Monnex and CCAE announced the names of the Meloche Monnex Fellowships in Alumni Affairs for 1999/2000. The three annual $25,000 bursaries allow recipients to gain practical experience in alumni affairs and foster the development of the institutional sector. The Fellows are chosen based on their academic skills, aptitudes and character, understanding of current issues facing educational institutions, interpersonal and communication skills and appropriate experience.

Julian Demkiw, BE '99 was awarded a Fellowship and will be working with the Associate Director of Alumni Relations at the U of S to develop a comprehensive young alumni program. Julian spent two years as Vice-President of Operations and Finance with the U of S Students' Union and was very involved in public relations, administration, working with volunteers and assisting in the recruitment of students to the College of Engineering.

The PRIX D'EXCELLENCE is the prestigious annual awards program of CCAE, which recognizes outstanding achievement in alumni affairs, public affairs, development, student recruitment and overall institutional advancement. The Alumni & Development office was awarded three awards.

GOLD - The Green & White Voluntary Subscription program was recognized under the category 'Best New Idea: Creativity on a Shoestring'. This program has increased alumni support to the Green & White six fold. Thank you to 2 Iron Publishing who assisted with design and development.

SILVER - The 'Best Program: Alumni Relations' category recognized the development and implementation of the Alumni Association alumni awards program.

BRONZE - The 'Best Program: Development' was awarded for Title Match'98. This was a fund-raising initiative in support of U of S libraries.

Elaine Cadell, Executive Director, Alumni & Development was recognized by CCAE for 15 years of service in the development and alumni field. Elaine was elected to the position of CCAE Vice-President at the annual general meeting.
