1950's Alumni living in B.C. reminisce about U of S

On November 4, 2007 fourteen U of S alumni from the 1950's now living in B.C. got together for a luncheon and reunion in the home of Clifford and Jeanette Ratzlaff of Abbotsford, B.C. Together, they enjoyed good food, happy reminiscing, laughter, and even tears as they shared some of their experiences since then. In the words of one attendee, Dr. Jake Dick, " Our alma mater came out looking very good during our most enjoyable time together." He graciously provided these pictures from their reunion.

AT THE BRANCHES

In celebration of the University of Saskatchewan's 100th Anniversary in 2007, the U of S Alumni Association branches were very active. The Toronto Branch, in particular, had a number of activities ranging from attendance at a Blue Jays baseball game to a Cirque du Soleil performance, both in September.

On September 15, Philadelphia group kicked off their newly formed branch with lunch at the Iron Hill Brewery and the Central Vancouver Island Branch celebrated the University's Centenary in Parksville, also a lunch, with guest speaker Dean Emerita Lynne Pearson.

November saw the Saskatchewan Roughriders taking home a Grey Cup Title with Toronto and Ottawa Branches decked in green and white, cheering on the champions at local pubs.

President MacKinnon was also busy in October and November touring parts of Canada, Toronto and Ottawa being two of the locations. A west coast visit took him to Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna. Closer to home, this year's President's Provincial Tour destinations included Estevan and Regina.

U of S Alumni Association

Alumni Association Presidents Message

Happy New Year! 2008 promises to be a busy year for University of Saskatchewan alumni. We have spent the past couple of years celebrating many successes: those of our alumni, the 90-year history of the Alumni Association and the University's Centennial. This year, your Alumni Association is taking stock and will set the stage for the next chapter of its history as an organization.

University of Saskatchewan alumni are making a difference in notable ways. I ask you to consider getting involved in two specific ways. First, there are vacancies for the University of Saskatchewan Senate in several districts and for members-at-large. Members of Convocation who are our alumni are eligible to serve on this important governing body. Nominations are due by March 1, 2008 and more information about the process can be found at http://www.usask.ca/university_secretary/senate/senate_elections.php. Secondly, we must celebrate our collective successes so I encourage you to nominate your fellow alumni for one of the prestigious U of S Alumni Association awards. The nomination deadline is April 15, 2008. You'll find more information about nominations below, or you can visit www.usask.ca/alumni.

And finally, I invite all members of the U of S Alumni Association to attend our Annual General Meeting in June. Further details will be provided in the spring issue of the Green and White and on our website.

It is my continued privilege to serve as your President of the U of S Alumni Association.
