Social events through the CMGSS are a great way to make new friends and talk about the hardships of graduate school. But, if you are feeling as though you need an impartial and confidential person to listen to both your professional and personal problems there is counselling available here on campus. Student Counselling Services is located next to Place Riel and offers short term counselling for 6 sessions. To make an appointment for your first session simply call 966-4920. You will be asked to pick up some forms to fill out and take with you to you first session.

With any kind of academic or personal grievances that you feel you need outside help, the first person to seek out would be your department graduate chair or an advisory committee chairperson. If possible, arrange a meeting to discuss the issues with him/her. If meeting with this person is not possible or the results are undesirable, you can consider approaching the CMGSS or your departmental representative to act as a mediator. The GSA also offers to act in such a role for students.
