Committee Meetings

I'm getting ready for my first committee meeting. What do I need to prepare?

Approximately a week before your committee meeting you must send out a package containing a summary of your research proposal and a completed Progress Report Form (You can get this from your Graduate Secretary) to all of your committee members. You will then need to prepare a presentation consisting of some background information pertaining to your project, your research plans, and any data you may have already collected.

The Department of Health Safety & Environment (DHSE) offers a wide variety of safety courses including laboratory safety and biosafety courses for graduate students and summer students. These courses can be registered for online.

I work with animals throughout my studies, are there any safety courses specific to the use of animals that are required?

Visit the UCACS Animal Care and Use Education and Training Program Website to view all information available and gain access to application forms.

The University Committee on Animal Care and Supply (UCACS) education and training program has been developed to meet the Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) requirement that all persons be trained in experimental animal care and use, and in the procedures to be performed on the animals.

A mandatory part of the UCACS Education and Training Program is a core course on laboratory animal science. This is available as an on-line, web-based course (previously GSR 988). Grades for this course are not reported on transcript and certificates of completion are issued upon completion of the course with an overall average of 80%. To register for this course please forward the required information for registration (indicated below) to Colleen Myers (colleen.myers@usask.ca).

The Gwenna Moss Teaching and Learning Centre offers an introductory course for teaching at the University level for graduate students as well as a variety of workshops that will better equip graduate students with more developed teaching skills.
