My lab is examining the migratory and remylinating ability of a glial cellof the primary olfactory pathway (i.e. the olfactory ensheathing cell). After grafting into the spinal cord these glial cells remyelinate CNS axons, promote long distance growth of regenerating axons, and can migrate overlong distances. My students and I are working at identifying what initiates and directs this cell migration, and also in characterizing the cellular interactions that occur as ensheathing cells remyelinate CNS axons.
