Administrative Staff - In Scope - Permanent & Seasonal |
“In Scope” refers to Administrative Staff who are members of the Administrative and Supervisory Personnel Association (ASPA) bargaining unit. If the Administrative Staff member has an appointment of half-time or greater they are eligible to participate in the University benefit plans for that bargaining unit as outlined in the plan summaries. |

Administrative Staff - In Scope - Limited Term |
“In Scope” refers to Administrative Staff who are members of the Administrative and Supervisory Personnel Association (ASPA) bargaining unit. If the “Limited Term” Administrative Staff member has an appointment of one year or greater and is employed half-time or more they are eligible to participate in the University benefit plans for that bargaining unit based on their length of appointment as outlined in the plan summaries. |

“Exempt” refers to Staff who are exempt from membership in a bargaining unit by virtue of their job duties and who are primarily paid from the University's operating budget. This group does not include senior administrators (Deans, Associate Deans, Associate Vice Presidents, etc.) or people hired under research funds. If the "Permanent or Seasonal" member has an appointment of half-time or greater they are eligible to participate in various University benefit plans as outlined in the plan summaries. |

"In Scope" refers to Sessional Lecturers who are members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 3287 (Sessional Lecturers) bargaining unit. Please refer to the plan summary or your collective agreement for eligibility criteria for the benefits as outlined in the plan summaries. |

If the “Limited Term” Support Staff member has been employed continuously in the same position one year or greater and is employed half-time or more they are eligible to participate in the University benefit plans for that bargaining unit based on their length of appointment as outlined in the plan summaries.

Research - Professional Staff |
This section applies to individuals engaged in funded research. Grant holders, subject to the ability of the grant to pay the employer's share of benefit costs, can decide to extend benefit coverage to all of their eligible employees. If the grant holder or principal investigator is unable to authorize coverage due to lack of funds, benefits can be offered when the grant is renewed and budget is provided for this item.
Eligible employees are employees who work at least half time and are in a term appointment of at least six months. The eligibility date is defined as the date the grant holder offers the benefit package to an eligible employee. If a benefit package is offered, benefits cannot be cancelled at any time throughout the duration of the employee's contract.
Eligibility to participate in the benefit plans is based on the length of appointment. |
