Exercise Testing and Training Methodology Respiratory and Metabolic Measurement

We specialize in integrative exercise physiology using advanced non-invasive techniques (metabolic measurement, inhaled gases, work of breathing, pulmonary function, airflow resistance, muscle function, muscle deoxygenation, cardiovascular function).

The ICEP lab emphasizes graduate student training in conducting research in healthy individuals (active and athletes) and various clinical populations (COPD, asthma, heart failure, aging) during exercise.  Our areas of research interest include: exercise testing and training, high-intensity interval training, clinical respiratory exercise physiology, integrations between the cardiovascular, respiratory, and muscular systems, pulmonary rehabilitation, and the relationship between exercise abilities and functional performance (stair climbing, fast walking, sit to stand, balance, and fall prevention).
