Viewing and Editing PDF Files

The software for viewing and editing PDF files was recently updated. Please view the following information about the changes to your computer and tips for viewing, creating and editing PDF files. 

For users performing advanced editing functions within PDF files, ICT has secured a limited number of licenses for Nuance PowerPDF. This software can be installed on Microsoft Windows computers and is available by completing the Software Request Form.

Microsoft Windows

Viewing PDF Files

Windows 7 and 8.x users will receive a standard PDF reader on their computer to open and view PDF files. PDF files will also open within most web browsers including Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

Windows 10 users will have the option to install the standard PDF reader from Software Centre or use the default option of opening PDF files in the Microsoft Edge Browser. PDF files will also open within most other web browsers including Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome.

Creating PDF Files

PDF files can be created within Microsoft Office 2010 or later. The following Microsoft Support article describes how to do this within Microsoft Office:

Editing PDF Files

Basic editing functions for PDF files are available in Microsoft Word 2013 and 2016. The following Microsoft Support article describes how to do this within Microsoft Office:

Advanced PDF Editing

For users performing advanced editing functions within PDF files, ICT has secured a limited number of licenses for Nuance PowerPDF. This software can be installed on Microsoft Windows computers only and is available by request. If you require the advanced features available in Nuance PowerPDF please complete the software request form prior to February 14.

Users who prefer to use Adobe Acrobat Professional may purchase a license from IT Acquisitions at the Campus Computer Store.
