Using OMR for Exams

To use Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) for exams, you will need to:

  1. Obtain OMR Exam Forms
    Your college or departments is responsible for purchasing these forms from Printing Services.
    • Standard Exam Forms
      You can purchase standard exam forms directly from the online stationery ordering website.
    • Custom Evaluation Forms
      If standard exam forms do not meet your needs, we can custom design optical scan forms to meet your specific exam requirements.

  2. Create an Exam Answer Key
    You will need to create an Exam Answer Key so your exams can be processed. To do this:
    • Fill out the correct answers on the exam form by using an HB pencil to colour in the correct circle or “bubble” for each anwer.

  3. Fill Out a Processing Request Form for Exams
    You will need to download, print and complete the:
    Note: We can produce a variety of reports relating to the grading of an exam. Be sure to indicate which report(s) you would like when you fill out the OMR Processing Request Form for Exams (PDF).   4. Bring Materials in for Processing
    Bring the following materials to the ICT Service Desk at 70 Arts Building during office hours:

    Note: To ensure the security of the scanned OMR sheets and reports, please bring photo ID (preferably U of S ID) with you when picking them up.

Your exams will usually be scanned and graded within 24 to 48 hours depending on the time of year and the demand on the service.
