Distributed Copying/Printing Service (Xerox Multifunction Device Printing)

Your department/college may have signed up for the distributed copying/printing service that uses Xerox Multifunction Devices (MFDs). MFDs provide printing, scanning, faxing and copying in one device that can serve the needs for an office or a workgroup.

Getting Started

The distributed copying/printing/multifunction device service provides convenient, quick and reliable copy and print services in colleges and units across campus for low-volume printing. Long-run/high-volume copying/printing can be done more economically and efficiently using the custom printing service.

MFD's are placed in departments according to the department’s needs, copier volume, number of people being served and location.

Access and Use

A large number of departments/units are clients of the distributed copying/printing service that uses Xerox Multifunction Devices. If you are unsure of whether your department is a client, please contact your local IT support personnel for information.

Typically, you will be required to enter a code before using the printer for your area. You can get this information from your local IT support personnel, as well as any other information related to using the printer.

Sign up for Service or Upgrade Equipment

To sign up for new service or to upgrade your existing equipment, please complete the Printing Equipment Request form (Word Document). Once you have completed the form, email it to Devin Morin (devin.morin@usask.ca) who will work with you to assess your printing situation in order to provide the most suitable printer.

Recycle your Used Toner Cartridges

Recycling your used toner cartridges is easy.

  1. Place your used toner cartridge into the empty box from the new cartridge. This service can be used for recycling all types of cartridges (Xerox, HP, Lexmark).
  2. Tape the box closed and mark on it that it is used (so it doesn’t get mixed in with new cartridges).
  3. Drop used toners off at the ICT Store (within the Campus Computer Store, 20 Place Riel)

Please note: Used cartridges cannot be sent through campus mail as the ink could leak from the cartridge onto the mail.

There are three types of models in use at the U of S: WorkCentres, ColorQubes and Phaser. Some individual models print only black and white, while other models print both colour and black and white.

The multifunction devices support the following features:

  • Scan to email
  • Scan to network share
  • Scan to USB/Print from USB
  • Fax
  • Fax forward to email
  • Custom scan to buttons/destinations 

All features may not be enabled on all machines.

Support

Getting New Toner Cartridges

If your machine says it needs toner, call Xerox at 1-855-726-3523 and they’ll be able to tell you if a new cartridge has already been sent. You will need to provide the serial number for the machine and verify that the delivery address on file is correct.

Error Messages

If you encounter error messages (e.g. account has been depleted) while using your machine, contact your local IT support personnel for assistance.
