Hyperlinks

There are several types of hyperlinks that can be used on a webpage.


Internal Hyperlinks

        1. Select (highlight) the word (or words) you wish to convert to a hyperlink. Do not use 'click here'
        2. Then while the text is highlighted, click the Insert/edit link icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar.Insert linkInsert link
        3. Click the page icon
        4. Browse and select the page that the link will take the user to when it's clicked (if the page does not exist in any of your folders you'll probably need to use an external hyperlink)
        5. Click Insert

          The window will close, and the hightlighted text becomes a hyperlink.

        7. Click the Submit button to save your changes

External hyperlinks

You may need to link to a webpage on another site

  1. Select (highlight) the word (or words) you wish to convert to a hyperlink.
    Do not use 'click here'
  2. Then while the text is highlighted, click the Insert/edit link icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar.

  3. Click on the External radio button
  4. Enter enter the URL (including http://) into the Link field.
    The Title field is optional. The text entered here will appear when a mouse hovers on the link.
  5. Click the Insert button. The window will close, and the hyperlink will be placed around the selected text.

  6. Click the Submit button to save your changes


Linking to an email address

Email links are similar to an external link.

  1. Select (highlight) the email address. Then click the Insert/edit link icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar.

  2. Select the External radio button.
  3. In the Link field enter 'mailto:' followed by the email address. For example mailto:firstname.lastname@usask.ca - note there are no spaces
  4. Click the Insert button. The window will close, and the hightlighted text becomes an email link

  5. Click the Submit button to save your changes to the page.

Anchor Tags

Creating anchor tags is a two-step process.

Step 1 - creating the anchor

  1. Put your cursor where you want the anchor, and click the Anchor icon.

  2. Give the anchor a unique name (note you'll need to use this same name for the anchor link).

  3. Click Insert. Note taht the Anchor indicator appears where the cursor had been placed in # 1.

Step 2 - creating the link that 'jumps' to the anchor when clicked:

  1. Select the word (or words) you wish to convert to the anchor link.
  2. Highlight the text with your mouse. Then while the text is highlighted, click the Insert/edit link icon in the WYSIWYG toolbar.
  3. In the Anchor field give the anchor link a name. Note you'll need to use the same name given in above (Step 1 #3)
  4. Click the Insert button

Unlink

    1. Place your cursor anywhere in the existing link.
    2. Click the Unlink icon
