The J. W. George Ivany award was established to recognize outstanding contributions by the university's academic or administrative staff in furthering the process of internationalization at the University of Saskatchewan. The award is named after Dr. J. W. George Ivany during whose tenure of presidency the university formalized its commitment to internationalization and who provided significant personal leadership in fulfillment of this commitment. The recipient receives an appropriately inscribed trophy and an award of $1,000, which can be applied toward any activity related to the process of internationalization. A master plaque listing past recipients of the award will be displayed in a prominent place on campus. The award will be presented annually at the Fall Convocation. Award recipients will be expected to give a public presentation on the development of their international initiatives or on the research, scholarly/artistic work undertaken internationally.
