Reviews at the University of Saskatchewan
Following extensive consultation, University Council and the Board of Governors approved A Framework for Assessment: Beyond Systematic Program Review in November and December 2008. The framework outlines a comprehensive assessment strategy for the University of Saskatchewan. One part of the framework identifies the need for a variety of review processes, including graduate program review, reviews of academic and administrative units, reviews of programs and services, curricular reviews and others as needed.
Under the guidance of the Provost’s Committee on Integrated Planning (PCIP), the office of Institutional Planning and Assessment (IPA), as the successor to the Integrated Planning Office (IPO), was charged with implementation and coordination of the framework activities, including reviews. The framework for assessment stated the need to develop more transparent processes for conducting reviews at the university as well as a more open process for communicating results. The IPA is currently developing processes and procedures for reviews in collaboration with others and these will be shared with the university community for comment prior to being formalized. All processes will be based on exemplary practices in higher education assessment.
