A computer account is required to access University IT services and facilities such as e-mail, Folder and Cabinet, and Homepage.
A computer account consists of a username and password. At the U of S, the most common form of a username is the Network Services Identifier (NSID). The NSID consists of three letters followed by three numbers (e.g. abc123). Members of the University community are provided with a randomly generated password that can be changed in PAWS.
Note: Access to some IT services and facilities is provided through accounts that do not use your NSID username and password. In these situations the username may be based on some combination of your first and last names. Different mechanisms are used to change passwords for accounts that do not use NSIDs.
