Text Colours]
Selecting Text Colours
Here's some suggestions for setting colours for text on your pages.
- Remember that people can specify their own text colour schemes and
override
your colours, so don't make colour an important part of your page content.
- People can change their default colours, so don't assume a light or
dark background. If you change any text colours on a web page, then
set
all the default colours (background, text, link colours, etc.)
Usually this is done in the "<body>"
tag, or with "stylesheets".
- If you do use stylesheets, you may still want to set the default
foreground and background colours in the "<body>" tag to support
older browsers that do not support style sheets. Also, be aware that some
versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer 3 did not allow you to change
background page colours using stylesheets.
- Maintain high contrast between text and background colours or
graphics. People with low vision have trouble with low contrast.
