The Basic Solution

The secret to making pages accessible to all is to build pages that adapt the page content to the capability of the browsers. This doesn't mean you need to restrict yourself to text-only pages, it just means text alternatives should be available for all content on the page. For example, if the content of a picture is important to your page, then make sure text describing the picture is available if the picture cannot be displayed.

To do this:

  1. Ensure that all content on the page is available by sight, by sound, and as text.
  2. Always separate content and site structure from the method used to present this information.
  3. Make sure the pages operate on many types of hardware, including devices without mice, with limited or no monitors, with only voice or text output, etc.
