1. What is Open CourseWare (OCW) (Public Access to U of S Course Tools / Blackboard)

U of S Open CourseWare (http://ocw.usask.ca) - allows instructors of currently offered or recently offered courses to share course materials with anyone, anywhere using U of S Course Tools / Blackboard.

2. How do I make my course syllabus public?

Simply upload the syllabus in the appropriate section in the U of S Course Tools (Blackboard).  For more information about the Syllabus Tool, see "Working with the Syllabus Tool – For Instructors" (link: http://www.usask.ca/its/courses/coursetools/docs/syllabustool.pdf)

For more information about the syllabus as a public document, see the Academic Courses Policy (link: http://www.usask.ca/university_secretary/council/academiccourses.php#course%20syllabus).

3. I had material up on OCW a couple years ago but it's gone now. Where did it go?

Open CourseWare only shows links to current or recently offered classes.

4. When I try to view the public version of my course page, it says "Error! You are not enrolled in the requested course." Why??

Unfortunately, Open CourseWare only works when the user is not already logged into U of S Course Tools / Blackboard.  You probably clicked on an OCW link while still logged into U of S Course Tools / Blackboard.  Please try using OCW in a different browser or log out of the system and try again.

5. How do I share my course materials with an individual (without making my materials public on OCW)?

Sometimes it is desirable to share course materials with an individual, but for copyright reasons, the material can't be made publicly accessible on Open CourseWare.  Although instructors can add TAs and other instructional team members into their course, this may grant too much access to private student information such as the identities of students registered in the course or even assignment grades.  Unfortunately, it is not possible for instructors to add students directly to a course due to the manner in which U of S Course Tools / Blackboard is connected to the university registration system.

Please contact help.desk@usask.ca and provide the CRN of your course as well as the NSID of the individual you wish to add to your course.  If the individual does not have an NSID, then ICT can create an account.  Alternatively, an individual can enrol as an audit student, at 50% the cost of normal tuition, and then they will be automatically granted access to the course.
