Java for Windows Computers
Please be aware that staff who require the Java Runtime Environment on their desktops can now upgrade to JRE version 1.6.0_45.
Testing has confirmed that version 1.6.0_45 works with SiRIUS Plus, UniFi plus, UFriend and other administrative systems that require the Java Runtime.
Please note that there are known issues with version 1.7.x of the Java Runtime, so please avoid using those versions until further notice.

Installation instructions will differ depending on how your desktops are supported:

For ICT managed desktops, (this will include the main Advancement staff and most of the colleges), this will be installed automatically beginning May 16th. Please ensure you shut down your machine when you leave for home Wednesday, May 15th or restart your machine in the morning on Thursday, May 16th to have this update applied.
- For locally supported desktops, to install this software please download the JRE 6u45 installer(s) for your computer:
Windows 32bit Operating Systems*: Please install the 32bit version
Windows 64bit Operating Systems*: Please install the 32bit version plus the 64bit version to ensure all web browsers will function correctly.
*To find out if your computer is running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows in Windows 7 or Windows Vista, do the following:

Open System by clicking the Start button
, right-clicking Computer, and then clicking Properties.

Under System, you can view the system type.
If your computer is running Windows XP, do the following:

Click Start.

Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

If you don't see "x64 Edition" listed, then you're running the 32-bit version of Windows XP.

If "x64 Edition" is listed under System, you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP.
Java For Apple Computers
*Important Notice For Apple Computers*
As of Jan 31, 2013, Apple has set a minimum version of Java within their Xprotect system. In order to use the compatible version of Java needed for all UofS Systems, please follow the directions for changing this minimum version.
Please note that there are known issues with version 1.7.x of the Java Runtime, so please avoid using those versions until further notice. To obtain java for Apple Computers, please use Apple Software Updates
Please note that there are known issues with Apple compatibility with JRE 1.6.0_37 and higher.
If you installed the 2012-006 or higher Java Update from Apple Software Updates, you will need to revert back to a version of Java that is compatible with all University systems; please follow the directions outlined on the below support page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559
