Step 1.

Download the Mac Sophos Installer from:

https://sophos.usask.ca/sophos/current/setup/Sophos%20Anti-Virus.mpkg.zip

Step 2.

Sophos installer will start once download is complete; press Continue.

Step 3.

Press Continue.

Step 4.

Press Continue.

Step 5.

Press Install.

Step 6.

Enter your Mac computer's username and password.

Step 7.

Press Close.

Step 8.

Click on the Black Sophos Shield in the Finder Menu, then select Update Now.

Step 9.

Once updated, click the Black Sophos icon in top right of Finder Menu, then select "Open Sophos Anti Virus Preferences".

Step 10.

Click the lock in lower left corner to make changes.

Step 11.

Select On-access Scanning Tab, then for Options make sure the following are selected:

• Scan: Check "Inside archive and compressed files"
• Scan: Uncheck "Files on network volumes"
• When a threat is found: "Clean up infected files"
• if Cleanup fails: "Deny access and move infected files"

Close the Preferences window by clicking the Red X in top left corner of the Preferences window.

NOTE: with these settings, if a virus is found it will try to cleanup the infection.  If cleanup fails, you will need to goto the "/Users/Shared/Infected" folder and "Move to trash" any files in there, then empty the trash.
