Accessing Sophos Anti-virus

To open the Sophos Anti-virus window,

1. Right click on the Shield icon located on the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

 


2. Choose "Open Sophos Anti-virus" from the pop-up menu.

 


3. The Sophos Anti-Virus home page will appear.

 

Running a Manual Scan on Demand

You cannot manually run a scan that is scheduled. Scheduled scans are displayed in the Available scans list with a clock icon.

To run a manual scan on demand, you must first create an Available scan. To create an Available scan, see the Setting Up a Scan section. (You will only need to do this the first time you want to run a manual scan.) Once you have created an additional Available scan, it will appear in the Available scans list in the home page of the Sophos Anti-virus window.

To run a manual scan on demand,

1. Select the scan you want to run by highlighting with a single click.
2. Click "Scan local disks."

 



 

3. A progress dialogue box will be displayed and the Activity summary will appear in the Sophos Anti-virus window.

 

Configuring Sophos Anti-virus

1. Click "Configure Sophos Anti-virus."

 



 

2. Click "On-access scanning." This process intercepts files right before they are written to the hard drive, and will only grant access to those that are virus free.

 



 

3. Under the Scanning tab select the options as shown below.

 



 

4. Under the Options tab, select the options as shown below.

 



 

5. Under the Extensions tab, select the options as shown below.

 



 

6. Under the Cleanup tab, select the options as shown below.

 



 

7. Click "Apply."

Running an On-demand Scan

An on-demand scan is a virus scan of the computer, or parts of the computer, that you can run immediately or schedule to run regularly.

1. Select "Configure Sophos Anti-virus."

 



 

2. Click "On-demand extension and exclusions."
3. Under the Extensions tab, select the option as shown below.
4. Click "OK."
