The CV Management System (CVMS) gives faculty and other instructors in participating colleges the ability to enter, store, maintain and publish their curriculum vitae (CV) information. Originally developed by the U of S for the College of Medicine, the web-based CVMS is secure, supports integration with other U of S systems such as SiRIUS, About US, and U-Who, and offers multiple publishing formats.   

Who can use the CV Management System?

Any college at the U of S may choose to adopt the CV Management System for its faculty and other instructors. Once a college adopts the CVMS, all its faculty and instructors may have access to the system.

The CVMS is not available to instructors who are not part of a participating college but it is possible for a college to adopt the CVMS for only some of its departments.

While individual faculty members can benefit from the CVMS even without full college participation, the full benefits of the centralized system will be seen at the department level only when all faculty and other instructors use the system. 

What are the benefits of the CV Management System?

• Secure and easy to use web-based software allows access from anywhere
• Single point of data entry reduces the need to maintain separate CVs in differing formats
• CVs can be published in multiple formats such as:

• CV owners can choose how, when and to whom CVs will be published
• CV owners can enter CV data themselves or authorize someone else to do so on their behalf
• Multiple approval levels ensure security and accuracy
• Entering legacy data is optional: CV Form 1 requires only the last academic year. Some departmental reports may require the most recent five years. Departments and colleges can decide how much information needs to be entered and schedule the necessary time and resources to do so
• Publication citations can be imported from EndNote-formatted and RefMan-formatted files. Such files come from desktop applications, some from online citation management applications like RefWorks, and online publishing repositories, like PubMed
• The U of S Comprehensive CV and Form 1 can be produced as PDF, HTML, and MS-Word documents
• CVMS offers access to CV samples and best practices documentation, including information on converting or transferring existing publication references into the CVMS
• The CVMS application, database, software and hardware are fully supported by ICT
• CVMS will support the production of academic activity reports suitable for use in department and college planning and reporting

• The option for relevant CV information to be fed into departmental faculty web pages to help keep those up to date at all times
• The ability for basic course information to be pulled into the system making it easier for CV owners to update their CVs
