In response to campus demand, ICT is pleased to launch a SharePoint 2010 Standard service as of fall 2011. If these web pages do not answer your questions about the service, please contact sp_enquiries@usask.ca.
Today's campus environment demands effective ways to collaborate electronically. SharePoint 2010 is a tool which helps ensure that information is accurate, relevant, current, consistent and shared appropriately. In addition, fast, efficient and green document management is important for efficient service delivery. Unmanaged documentation wastes employees' time searching for the "correct" files in email or deeply-nested folders, or recreating documents which have been misplaced. SharePoint 2010 offers features that will assist in collaboration and record management.
The initial roll out of SharePoint 2010 includes the subset of features available in the Sharepoint. These features were chosen to provide a wide range of functionality, allowing multiple problems to be solved. For a complete list of the features, see our section on SharePoint 2010 Features. Future directions lists features not yet available and provides information about the work needed in order to implement them at the university.
While SharePoint is a complex product capable of meeting many business requirements out-of-the-box, there is the possibility that third-party solutions may be more effective in some situations.
Central funding to cover the costs for providing a SharePoint service is not available. ICT hopes to be able to offer SharePoint without a service fee in the future. Until then, a fee-for-service offering reduces total university costs compared to multiple SharePoint services in various colleges and departments. The service fees are comparable to or lower than the fees off campus providers charge. Please see the Pricing and Licencing section for more details.
