Site administrators requiring assistance should see the contact information for information on getting help.
There is a SharePoint Special Interest Group site. Anybody on campus can access the site, view the events calendar, get more information about SharePoint or post questions that are not answered by this website.
To keep the SharePoint service secure and robust ICT technical specialists will maintain university credential integration (SSAM, U-Who, PAWS, NSID/password) and ensure bug fixes, enhancements and new versions of the software supplied by Microsoft are applied as often as every month. Depending on business needs other software may be evaluated, tested in our environment or installed for the university’s use; ICT consultants will help your unit determine if software does what it purports to do. As part of the service, ICT will help you resolve problems relating to the improper functioning of SharePoint 2010 or associated tools.
Before starting to use SharePoint, it is important to make decisions about priorities among your business requirements, the investment you are able to make now and in the next few years, and how your unit will support SharePoint use long term. As part of the base service offering, ICT will provide limited consulting, at no cost, to colleges, departments and workgroups regarding how you can most effectively use SharePoint to meet your business needs. Colleges, departments and workgroups who then wish to use SharePoint can either use their local IT support staff or can contract ICT (on a fee-for-service basis) to implement the "out-of-the-box" SharePoint functionality or to develop customized SharePoint software applications to meet their business needs.
ICT will also lead a SharePoint users group for the purpose of sharing solutions and to encourage collaboration among campus groups using SharePoint.
Local university specific SharePoint training (half day courses) will also be available. See the Training Services website for offerings and prices; courses will be posted as the curriculum is developed.
ICT does backups of the Sharepoint farm for disaster recovery purposes. If you need to recover items that have been deleted from a site, the recycle bin will keep the items for 45 days. Individual users can restore deleted items that they have deleted, and site administrators can restore items deleted by any user. If ICT is requested to restore items or sites due to user error, we will bill at our standard rates for the time required to complete the restore.
