Teaching to a SMALL blended class (local and remote)
Instructor:
- a high-speed (wired) Internet connection in office or classroom
- a multimedia-capable computer
- a room microphone capable of picking up student voices from around your classroom(see tips on choosing microphones)
- a small set of speakers
- a video projector (unless your room/class is small enough for everyone to see your monitor)
- optional web camera for the room
Remote Students:
- a high-speed (wired) Internet connection where they are located
- a multimedia-capable computer
- a USB or analog headset (preferably USB)
- optional web camera
Teaching to a LARGE Blended Class (local and remote)
Instructor:
- a high-speed (wired) Internet connection in the lecture hall
- a multimedia-capable laptop IN ADDITION to the multimedia machine you use to present to your local students
- a wireless lapel microphone to be worn by the instructor (so the remote students can hear you)
- a room microphone or handheld microphone if you want your remote students to be able to hear your local students.
- an audio mixer to connect the two microphones to the laptop
- a set of speakers if you want your local students to be able to hear your remote students
- a moderator/student assistant to run the second laptop, moderate the interaction with the remote students, and manage your microphones
- optional web camera in the room
Remote Students:

"Broadcasting" a face-to-face seminar to an internet audience
This scenario is very similar to teaching to a large blended class, except that you will need to make sure your presenters and participants can prepare and test ahead of time if the event is a one-time event.
Presenter:
- a high-speed (wired) Internet connection in the lecture hall
- a multimedia-capable laptop IN ADDITION to the multimedia machine you use to present to the local room
- a wireless lapel microphone to be worn by the presenter (so the remote participants can hear you)
- a room microphone or handheld microphone if you want your remote participants to be able to hear your local participants.
- an audio mixer to connect the two microphones to the laptop
- a moderator/student assistant to run the second laptop, moderate the interaction with the remote participants, and manage your microphones
- optional web camera in the room
