To get started with Elluminate Live!, first make sure that your computer meets their minimum hardware requirements, then visit the Elluminate Live! support site and perform Step 1 indicated there. Step 1 is to ensure that you have the prerequisite software, Java, installed on your computer. If you do NOT, you can download and install Java for free from http://www.java.com/en/.
Once you have the required software installed, you can proceed to Step 2, accessing the Elluminate Live! configuration room to test hour connection, settings and audio hardware.
The final step in testing your access to Elluminate Live! is to access the ITS Help Desk Test Room. You will be asked to provide your name when you click to enter the room. You should NOT be asked for a password. In this test room, you should see some text indicating that you are in the ITS Help Desk Elluminate Live! Test Room, and you should hear some pre-recorded audio.
NOTE - Your web browser's security settings MAY prevent you from downloading some important files required for starting your Elluminate Live! session. If you find you are NOT able to enter the test room. please check to see whether your browser is displaying any alerts indicating that it has prevented the downloading of files. Most commonly, in Internet Explorer this will be a yellow bar running across the top of your browser window. Clicking on it will give you the option to download a file. Once you do so, Elluminate Live! should start and you should be placed in the ITS Help Desk Test Room.
At this point, you should be ready to access your REAL web conferencing session via Elluminate Live!. You should have received information about connecting to THAT session from your instructor or event organizer/coordinator. In many cases, this will be an email containing a "participant link" for you to click on to join the session, in some cases it may be a link on a web page or within an online course.
