The U of S lecture capture service team does their best to ensure that a lecture capture does not fail. However, due to human error and/or equipment failure, we cannot guarantee 100% that a failure won't occur.
eMAP and ITS highly recommend that you have a contingency plan, that we refer to as Plan B, in the event of trouble.
An appropriate Plan B depends on how critical the success of the lecture capture is.
If the Instructional Support Services (ISS) team discovers that a lecture capture has failed, the instructor will be notified immediately. Conversely, if an instructor discovers that there has been a failure in the capture process, they should contact the ITS Help Desk at 966-4817 as soon a possible to advise them.
Please inform your students of lectures that were not properly scheduled, failed to record or that were deleted.
Plan B for critical success of a lecture capture
If it is critical that the lecture be captured correctly in the first place, ISS can assist in providing redundancy by offering two services to record copies of the lecture. For example, schedule the recording using the lecture capture service and use a second service/tool to capture the lecture (e.g., podcasting service, lecture capture software on a personal laptop or console computer (e.g., Camtasia, ProfCast), a hand held recorder). Visit the Where is Lecture Capture Available section to learn what capabilities exist in the room you are scheduled in. Contact the ITS Help Desk at 966-4817 to discuss options.
Plan B for dealing with a failed lecture capture
If a lecture capture failed and it is decided that the lecture needs to be re-recorded:
- The instructor can book a classroom to present (and capture) the lecture again.
- The instructor can use the Personal Capture Software (on their computer) or a Portable Audio Capture Device to re-record the lecture.
In the event that a lecture capture exists for a past semester, the ISS team may be able to extract from an archive stored by ITS or backed up by the instructor. Please contact the ITS Help Desk at 966-4817 for assistance with such a request.
