Instructors
Instructors
recording their lectures using the U of S lecture capture service agree to the following terms of
use:
- Instructors
choose whether or not to use this service to have their lectures recorded.
- The instructor
must inform students, guest lectures and other instructors taking part or
attending a lecture (series) that it is being recorded.
- Recordings are
available to students in the class automatically as soon as recordings are
processed. Therefore requesting that a class be recorded implies the instructor
grants permission for the University to distribute the recordings and
permission for authorized people to view them.
- Instructors have
the option of having their recordings deleted from the server (copies may
continue to exist in backups but would not be available for viewing).
- Instructors will
decide if, and to whom else (besides students registered in the class), the
recordings will be made available. Adding additional persons authorized to view
the recordings implies the instructor grants permission for the University to
distribute the recordings and permission for those people to view them.
- Instructors must
ensure that they have obtained all necessary copyright right clearances to
present materials (e.g., displayed, played back, performed) during the lecture
being recorded by this service.
- Instructors need
to be aware of copyright implications and take appropriate steps (e.g., delete
recording) if someone other than themselves presents in their class (e.g.,
Student presentations, guest lectures).
- Instructors
using this service to record their lectures must abide by all applicable laws
and all University Policies, including the Computer Use Policy.
- Instructors agree
that the recordings made by the service may be monitored for the purposes of
administering this system (e.g., testing, monitoring technical quality of
recordings).
- This service can
only be used for University of Saskatchewan purposes, including lectures,
presentations, meetings for educational purposes, business, or research
purposes, etc.
- Only lectures in
classrooms with the necessary equipment installed can be recorded by this
service.
- Instructors
using the service may be asked to participate in a survey to evaluate the effectiveness
of this service.
- The service
cannot control how others might use the recording after accessing it.
- The service will
retain the recordings as follows:
- Recordings are archived by ICT for up to two years.
- If the lecture recording needs to be kept for
historical reasons the School/Department will be responsible for downloading the
capture and storing.
- Under normal circumstances, students will have access
to the recordings for at least 30 days after the class ends.
- Instructors can
take a copy of their own processed lectures with them if they leave the University
of Saskatchewan.
- All recordings
should have a suitable Creative Commons License applied, possibly one that is quite restrictive (e.g.,
Attribution, No Derivative Works)
Students
- Students viewing
these recordings must abide by all applicable laws and all University Policies, including the Computer Use Policy.
- While students
are granted the right view recordings they are not granted rights to copy,
transmit or alter the recordings unless those rights are specifically listed.
- Students
understand that all activity recorded by the service may be monitored for the
purposes of administering this system (e.g., testing).
- Students using
the service may be asked to participate in a survey to evaluate the effectiveness
of this service.
- Participants in
lectures or presentations recorded by this service recognize that what they do
in class may be recorded.
- Students must
ensure that they have obtained all necessary copyright right clearances for
materials they present (e.g., displayed, played back, performed) during the
lecture being recorded by this service.
