The U of S Central Address Book is located on the LDAP server. LDAP is a standard used by newer e-mail programs to access central address books for organizations. The University of Saskatchewan maintains an LDAP address book at "ldapserver.usask.ca." Access to the Central Address book is restricted to members of the U of S community because it is not possible to opt out of the internal directory.
Access Address Book
Anyone using a computer on the U of S Computer network that has e-mail software that can access an LDAP database, can access the Central Address Book.
PAWS and Webmail
PAWS and Webmail are automatically set up with access to the Central Address Book.
To search the Central Address Book while using the PAWS e-mail application.
- Click the e-mail icon.
- Click "Compose" to begin a new message.
- Click the Address button.
- Change the selected Address Source from "Personal Address Book" to "U of S Email Directory."
- Enter a first name, last name or department name and click "search."
To search the Central Address Book while using Webmail.
- Click the Address Book icon.
- Change the "My Address Book" to "U of S E-mail Directory" in the pull-down menu beside the Search button.
Other E-mail Clients
Other e-mail clients can be configured to access the Central Address Book by adding ldapserver.usask.ca as a directory. The method for setting this configuration varies depending on the e-mail client. Not all browsers support LDAP servers.
When configuring your address book the following settings must to be set:
- Set the LDAP server name to: ldapserver.usask.ca
- Set the "Search Base" option as: o=University of Saskatchewan,c=CA
- Enter the name of the address book "University of Saskatchewan" if there is a location to do so.
Please ensure that your personal address book is designated as the default address book.
