The University provides a Webmail service to the campus community. This service provides individuals a way to securely access their e-mail on any U of S e-mail server from off-campus. A secure webpage on the Webmail server encrypts all traffic, including the username and password, between the Webmail server and off-campus e-mail client.
All traffic between the server and the web client is encrypted to prevent network snooping for usernames and passwords on unsecured networks.
Menus and help information are provided in a variety of languages. The correct character set must be installed on the client browser.
An address book is provided for storing commonly used e-mail addresses. This address book is not integrated with other e-mail systems including the one provided in PAWS. The Campus E-mail Directory is accessible from within Webmail. It is included as a search option in the address book.
Webmail uses the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP). E-mail messages remain on the U of S server when accessed using Webmail, unless the message is deleted.
