The University provides a U of S Email and Calendar Service to all students, instructors, researchers and employees as well as other members of the community such as professor emeriti, retirees and alumni. The University uses this email service for official communications with students and employees. Email addresses use the Network Services ID followed by @mail.usask.ca: abc123@mail.usask.ca
The U of S Email service is accessible through a variety of computer email programs (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Apple Mail) as well as through PAWS and Outlook Web App (OWA) web interfaces. With both PAWS and OWA you can access your email securely from anywhere in the world, all you need is a web browser and access to the Internet.

Email, calendars, contacts, and tasks are all integrated in the service. Outlook, Entourage, Outlook Web App, or a supported Mobile Device are required to access all of these features in one interface.
Any mobile device that supports Microsoft's ActiveSync protocol can be configured to automatically synchronize email, calendar entries, and contacts. This includes iPhones, iPads, iPods, Android 2.2 and higher phones and tablets, and Windows Phones.
Blackberries can also synchronize email, calendar, and contacts using the additional cost Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) service.
The Outlook Web App (OWA) web interface provides full access to email, calendaring, contacts, and tasks from supported web browsers (including Internet Explorer 7 or higher, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Chrome). OWA also includes the ability to:
Employees with voicemail on their on-campus phone will be able to access voicemail messages right in their email inbox. With the free Cisco Viewmail add-on for Microsoft Outlook on Windows, you can also forward, reply to, and record voicemail messages.
Email messages that are suspected of being spam are quarantined. A notice is sent to the original recipient(s) indicating that email messages have been quarantined. The recipient can retrieve any message that has been quarantined in error. Email from known spam and spam relay sites are blocked.
All email messages are scanned for viruses. Any messages found to contain a virus are not delivered.
In order to help eliminate the spread of viruses though executable files (programs) attached to email messages, these files are removed from the email message and users are sent notification.
The U of S provides a large mailbox for email messages. Manage your quota to help you use your email storage space effectively.

The U of S email and calender service can send and receive messages up to 50MB in size. This includes all message text, attachments and address headers (headers usually use a few KB). People who send messages larger than 50MB will receive an automated message informing them of size constraints.
Out of office auto replies can be set up for the U of S Email and Calendar service.
Messages from other email services can be forwarded to your U of S Email service. As this service is used for official communication from the University, it is recommended that you forward email from other e-mail services to this address rather than the reverse.
You can also forward your U of S email service to another service.
At the U of S you can set up an email alias for your email address. You can create a name-based alias (firstname.lastname@usask.ca) that is easier to remember than your NSID-based (abc123@mail.usask.ca) address.
Your name, email address, department and other information can be stored in the Campus Email Directory. This allows people to search for your email address from on or off campus.
Messages sent to the U of S Email and Calendar service are stored on highly reliable servers that are backed up nightly. As a result there should be no significant loss of email due to server error.
The U of S Email service supports the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP). IMAP allows members of the University community to store their email on a central server (rather than on an individual computer). The email messages are then available from any computer (at home, at the office or in computer labs) with Internet access.
