Reporting E-mail Problems and Abuse
There are a number of situations where you want to display all of the headers of an e-mail message. If you are reporting delayed delivery of e-mail then the headers contain a detailed log of each server that handled the message. Unwanted or abusive e-mail contains a record of who sent it and how, and not always in the way that the sender claimed.
When forwarding an unwanted or abusive e-mail to the ITS Help Desk it is very important that you include all of the header information. The following are instructions to submit the header information to help.desk@usask.ca:
Apple Mail
- Open the message that you want to see all headers.
- Under the view menu of Apple Mail select Message then select long headers (shortcut is: Command-Shift-H)
- The source of message will now appear. To send the information, press forward button, enter the address help.desk@usask.ca and press "Send."
Microsoft Outlook
- Right click on the desired message, and select "Options."
