This set-up guide will use information for Alpha Charlie as
an example. Alpha Charlie has abc123@mail.usask.ca
as an e-mail address and has alpha.charlie@usask.ca
as an e-mail
alias.
Please Note: an e-mail alias (e.g. fistname.lastname@usask.ca) is
used when setting up Outlook 2010. If you have not already created an e-mail
alias for your nisd@mail.usask.ca
e-mail address, please login mits.usask.ca
to create one.
1. Add a new mail account:
- Click Start, select All
Programs, then select Microsoft Office, then select Microsoft Outlook 2010
2. Click on File tab and select Account Settings.
3. Click “New…” to create a new account from the
Account Settings Window.

4. Select “E-mail Account” from Add New Account
Window. Click “Next” to proceed.
5. In the Auto Account Setup screen, enter the following information:
- enter “Your
Name” as you want your name to appear when you send message (e.g. Alpha
Charlie).
- enter your E-mail Address. The “Email address:” file is the address that shows
as the “from” address when you send mail. Enter your e-mail alias instead of
your actual address. (e.g. alpha.charlie@usask.ca).
6. Select “manually Configure server settings
or additional server types”.

Click “Next” to proceed.
7. Select “Internet E-mail” in the Choose Service
Screen.

Click “Next” to proceed.
8. In the Internet E-mail Setting screen, type in the following information:
- select
“IMAP” in the “Account Type:” field.
- type “mail.usask.ca” in the
“Incoming mail server:” field.
- type “smtp.usask.ca” in the “Outgoing
mail server (SMTP):” field.

8. Under Logon Information, type in the following information:
- type in your NSID
(e.g. abc123) in the “User Name:” field.
- For security reasons, it is recommended
that you turn off the Remember password function by clicking the box to remove
the check mark. This means that you will be prompted to enter your password
when you connect. Please Note: if others do no have access to your computer,
you can choose to leave this option on. It can also be turned on at a later
time if desired.
- Ensure that Secure Password Authentication
(SPA) is turned off. The box should not have ta check mark in it.

9. Click the “More Settings…” button.
10. Click on the Outgoing Server Tab.
11. Type in the following information:
- Click the box to turn on the “My outgoing
server (SMTP) requires authentication” option.
- If your incoming e-mail server login is
with your NSID username and password, you can choose the “use same settings as
my incoming mail server” option. Otherwise you can choose “Log on using” and
enter your NSID username (e.g. abc123).
- For security reasons, it is recommended that
you turn off the Remember password function by clicking the box to remove the
check mark. This means that you will be prompted to enter your password when
you connect. Please Note: if others do no have access to your computer, you can
choose to leave this option on. It can also be turned on at a later time if
desired.
- Ensure that the “Secure Password
Authentication (SPA)” box does not have a check mark in it.

12. In the Internet e-mail Setting window, click the Advanced tab.
13. Type in the following information:
- For “Use the following type of encrypted
connection” settings choose SSL for Incoming server and TLS for the outgoing
server.
- For “Incoming server (IMAP)” change the
number to 993.
- For “outgoing server (SMTP)” change the
number to 587.

14. Click “Ok” to
save the settings you have entered.
15. Click “Next” to proceed.
16. Click “Finish”. The Outlook 2010 E-mail setup
is complete.
