To provide additional network security, ICT operates a firewall between the University network and external networks (Internet, CA*Net, Internet2, etc.). Firewalls improve security by reducing the number of network attacks, probes and worms entering the University network from external networks.
The firewall also provides port blocking, network address translation and will work with the Intrusion Detection System to defend against network attacks.
