In an effort to protect the University network and servers from attacks, virus scanning is provided as part of some computing services. E-mail messages and file storage spaces are scanned for viruses on a nightly basis.
E-mail sent to the following servers are scanned for viruses: mail.usask.ca, admin.usask.ca, sask.usask.ca and campus.usask.ca. E-mail sent to e-mail addresses registered in My IT Services (MITS) are also scanned for viruses.
If a virus is found in your individual file storage space and disinfection is successful, an e-mail will be sent you at abc123@mail.usask.ca (where abc123 is your NSID) warning you that a virus was found and cleaned.
If a virus is found in your individual file storage space and disinfection is not possible, infected files will be renamed by adding "_INFECTED " just before the last ". " in the file name. An e-mail will be sent to you at abc123@mail.usask.ca (where abc123 is your NSID) to warn you that a virus was found and renamed.
If a virus is found in departmental file storage space, infected files are renamed and secured and departmental IT support staff will be contacted
