Every computer has a name. Your computer name is the human element of how the network sees your computer. The computer name is created when a computer is first set up. Computers that are a part of a large network, such as computers on campus, may have names that follow certain conventions. Home computers can have names that are significant to the owner.
Your computer name is most useful for troubleshooting network problems. If you are having problems on campus, providing the Help Desk with your computer name can assist with resolving the problem. In addition, people who connect to their desktops from another computer using a remote desktop connection need to know their computer name.
The computer name is sometimes referred to as the Domain Name System (DNS).
You may use the PC Name Checker to find out the computer name (DNS) or host name of your computer.
