Configuring "guest" Wireless for Windows XP
- Open the Control Panel from your Start Menu.
- Open Network Connections.
- Right click on your Wireless Network Connection and select Properties.
- Select the Wireless Networks tab.
- Check the "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings."
- Click "Add."
- Under the Association tab:
- In the Network name (SSID) enter: guest
- Data encryption "Disabled"
- Click "OK."
Click Continue Anyway if prompted.
Please Note: If guest does not appear at the top of the Preferred Networks list, please select it and press the Move up button.
This will ensure that while on campus your wireless card tries to connect to the guest wireless network first.
- Located in the task tray a popup balloon will appear indicating that you are connected to the guest wireless network.
- Open any web browser. You will be redirected to the authentication page.
Conference guests: please use your conference ID username and password.
Non-conference guests: please enter the following username and password:
Username: visitor
Password: visitor
Click Continue.
Please note: Wireless traffic is not protected on this network and may be seen by others. It is your responsibility to take steps to protect your information. Establish a VPN or enable other security measures as appropriate.
